Peter Levin, chief technology officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs, has told Fedscoop he plans to step down from his position as of March 1.

David Stegon writes Levin led the department’s online Blue Button initiative, where the VA has recently made available a patient’s complete medical record except for diagnostic images.

Patients click on the Blue Button to download digital medical records from a secure website offered by their doctors, insurers, pharmacies or other health-related services, according to the report.

The VA has also added veteran service records to Blue Button with the goal of helping veterans search for jobs and the Office of Personnel Management will require all healthcare providers on the federal health benefits plan to offer Blue Button, according to Fedscoop.

Prior to becoming CTO in 2009, Levin co-founded and led a semiconductor design software firm, was a venture partner at Germany-based venture firm Ventizz Capital Partners and served as an executive director of Astaro A.G.
