Report: Obama Sets Friday Deadline For Military Sequestration Plans

PentagonThe Defense Department is facing a Friday deadline to submit to the White House its plans for how to handle automatic spending cuts under sequestration, Defense News reports.

This deadline comes in addition to a Feb. 15 deadline for the Pentagon to send Congress a request for authorization to furlough civilian workers.

The Pentagon must make this request 45 days before furloughing any workers, according to Defense News.

Aides on Capitol Hill and Pentagon officials are working to schedule a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Feb. 12 with the current service chiefs, which Defense News reports would be in addition to another Feb. 26 meeting with former service chiefs.

Pentagon leaders have put together their budget proposal for fiscal year 2014 but have not finalized it and the Office of Management and Budget gave its passback guidance to the Pentagon Jan. 28, which a defense official told Defense News was “incomplete.”

  1. Comes at the same time we are spending to allow benefits for same sex military spouses meanwhile we can’t effectively support the fleet
