The Senate is expected to vote down alternative proposals proposed by both Democrats and Republicans aimed at avoiding $85 billion in sequestration cuts, Roll Call reports.Alan K. Ota writes Republicans James Inhofe of Oklahoma and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania proposed giving President Barack Obama flexibility in implementing cuts, while Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) proposed a package of savings and revenue increases to replace the sequester.
Any proposal would require 60 votes to go forward, Ota writes.
According to Defense News, the House does not have sequestration legislation on its Thursday schedule.
Once Obama directs agencies to implement the cuts, Congress and the White House have 26 days to either agree on another delay or a permanent resolution, Defense News reports.
