1 min read

CybernumbersIn an interview with The Hill newspaper, Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) said he expects President Barack Obama to issue a cybersecurity executive order after the State of the Union address.

Carper, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, told the newspaper he wants to hold a joint hearing with the Commerce and Intelligence committees to discuss the order.

He said he also wants feedback from administration officials and other stakeholders, Jennifer Martinez reports.

Carper also told the newspaper he does not expect his committee to re-introduce a bill sponsored by Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) that failed to move forward last year.

Martinez writes the cyber order would create a voluntary program for companies operating crucial infrastructure to abide by cyber standards the government would help develop.
