NIST Drafting Private Sector Cyber Framework; Ari Schwartz Comments

NISTLockCyberThe National Institute of Standards and Technology is drafting cybersecurity regulations for private companies and businesses that manage critical infrastructure.

NIST said at an industry briefing hosted by Venable LLP that it has been visiting and asking businesses to help support a nationwide cybersecurity program, Nextgov reported Monday.

Ari Schwartz, a Commerce Department senior policy adviser, said NIST is targeting banks, water treatment facilities and gas pipelines for the guidelines, Aliya Sternstein writes.

Schwartz said the framework for recommended practices is scheduled for release in November, according to Nextgov.

NIST will hold a brainstorming workshop April 3 in Gaithersburg, Md. to gather feedback from enterprises and at least 300 individuals have signed up, Sternstein writes.
