Pentagon Delaying Civilian Furlough Notices; Jessica Wright Comments

1 min read

PentagonThe Defense Department is delaying sending its furlough notices to civilian workers for two weeks so officials can analyze the continuing resolution passed by Congress this week, Federal Times reports.

Stephen Losey reports the CR is intended to let the department put $10.4 billion into its operations and maintenance accounts as part of efforts to manage sequestration.

Jessica Wright, acting undersecretary for personnel and readiness, told Federal Times the furlough notices will now be issued April 5 as a result of the delay.

Losey reports the delay will push back the start date of furloughs to May 6 at the earliest, giving the Pentagon 21 weeks until the end of the fiscal year.
