Todd Shields and Julianna Goldman write Mignon Clyburn, the commissionâs senior Democrat, is serving as the agency’s chairwoman until the Senate confirms a new leader.
Wheeler would succeed Julius Genachowski, who announced his departure from the FCC in March after a four-year term.
Bloomberg reports Wheeler currently serves as a managing partner at venture capital firm Core Capital Partners LP.
Wheeler’s lobbying positions include 11 years as president of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association, now known as CTIA-The Wireless Association, and five years prior to that as president of the National Cable Television Association, now called the National Cable & Telecommunications Association.
