The Defense Department is seeking ways to speed up the process for approving and deploying mobile devices, applications and other technologies, FCW reported Tuesday.

Amber Corrin writes the Pentagon wants to have the approval time for mobile technology reduced to 30 days from the current nine months-to-one year timeframe.

Corrin reports Maj. Gen. Robert Wheeler, the Defense Department’s deputy chief information officer, told a Mobile Work Exchange town hall meeting Tuesday agency leaders must change how they think and decide on how to deploy technology.

Pentagon officials are collaborating with the National Institute for Standards and Technology and other federal agencies to address risks to a fast-track process, according to the report.

The department previously released a mobile strategy and a plan to implement commercial mobile devices.
