Report: France Offers Military Supply Deal to Qatar

ArmyChopperThe French government has offered to supply Dassault Aviation-built Rafale fighter jets to Qatar’s army, Reuters reported Sunday.

Sylvia Westall writes French President Francois Hollande was in Doha for a meeting with Western and Arab leaders regarding the Syrian conflict.

“I made new proposals for air, land and naval defense,” Hollande told Qatar’s state news agency, according to Reuters.

“France will always be there for Qatar to ensure its defense and security,” Hollande added.

Paris has political and commercial ties with Qatar and Hollande’s state visit is expected to encourage further investment into France, according to the report.

The Government Accountability Office has found that the U.S. Air Force intends to start fielding in fiscal 2020 new Combat Rescue Helicopters to replace aging HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters that have recorded the most flight time when it comes to staff recovery missions. GAO said in a report published Thursday the service will initially deploy the new helicopters to the active component six years ahead of the reserve component and to the Air National Guard by 2027.
