Michael Neibauer writes a new report from the city’s chief financial officer shows that the number of federal-level jobs declined 12.9 percent nationwide and 6.8 percent within the District over that period.

Between 2001 and 2013, the District recorded a 13 percent growth in federal employment while the suburbs experienced a 20.7 percent increase between 2001 and 2013.

There are currently 203,970 federal workers based in Washington and 169,270 employees in the suburbs, according to the report.
