Beth McGrath, the Defense Department‘s deputy chief management officer, has outlined the agency’s efforts to meet two audience readiness deadlines within this decade in an interview with Federal News Radio that aired Wednesday.

Michael O’Connell writes the Defense Department has a 2014 deadline to produce an auditable statement of budgetary resources and a 2017 deadline to develop an audit readiness plan for all of its financial statements.

Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale and McGrath meet with agency organizations on a quarterly basis to identify potential barriers and track auditability progress, she told Federal News Radio.

McGrath said the financial audit project has led to the department aiming for tighter internal controls and understanding of its business practices.

She also described the business priorities contained in the agency’s strategic management plan for fiscal years 2014 and 2015.

“I think we consolidated some of the goals that align to the acquisition, technology and logistics space into a single goal,” she said.
