U.S. senators have approved the nomination of Samantha Power as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in an 87-10 vote, ABC News reported Thursday.

“As a long-time champion of human rights and dignity, she will be a fierce advocate for universal rights, fundamental freedoms and U.S. national interests,†the President said after the confirmation.
Power, a journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, was a foreign policy adviser during Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
The Senate confirmed seven other presidential nominees this week, including all five members for the National Labor Relations Board, according to the report.
