“The Net of Federal Networks: Will You Survive the Big Five?” study reveals that most federal agencies are unprepared for the risks associated with those information technology services known as âbig fiveâ amid efforts to implement them in the next two years, MeriTalk said Monday.
MeriTalk, with Brocade as underwriter, polled 204 federal network managers in July for the study.
Network managers expect a 79 percent increase in total workloads with the implementation, which they report will pose security risks, bandwidth limitations, network latency and storage constraints to government networks.
“Agencies need to take steps to prepare for increased network demands now – this includes ensuring networks are modernized to open standards and robust enough to handle the traffic,” Anthony Robbins, vice president Federal at Brocade.
A few agencies have started developing strategies to address future network bottlenecks, with 43 percent of network managers boosting their security infrastructure, according to the survey.
