Proposed House CR Would Put CBP, ICE Furloughs on Hold

Capitol_BuildingBoth the Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies would receive additional funding flexibility to maintain their current staffing levels under a continuing resolution introduced by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers Tuesday.

The bill would continue funding the government at the current $986.3 billion level and keep sequestration cuts in place through Dec. 15, 2013 or until Congress passes a fiscal year 2014 budget, Rogers’ office said Tuesday.

“Our country desperately needs a long-term budget solution that ends the draconian cuts put into place by sequestration, and that provides for a responsible, sustainable, and attainable federal budget,” Rogers said in the release.

“It is my hope that this stopgap legislation will provide time for all sides to come together to reach this essential goal,” he added.

Rogers’ office says the CR also contains funding flexibility provisions for weather satellite programs, pandemic flu preparedness and chemical or biological attack response efforts.

One provision increases funds to the Interior Department and Forest Service for wildlife suppression and another gives more funds to Veterans Benefits Administration for processing disability claims.
