IAEA Chief, Iran Envoy Schedule Talks in Vienna

Nuclear powerplantHigh-level talks between the United Nations and Iran representatives will take place next week as Iran aims to convince the international community its nuclear program is legitimate, Reuters said Thursday.

Fredrik Dahl writes International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Yukiya Amano and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi have scheduled the meeting at the nuclear watchdog’s Vienna headquarters on Monday.

The meeting will be held ahead of separate talks between Iran, the U.S. and five other countries over the U.N. agency’s bid to restart nuclear inspections in the country.

Reuters reports the IAEA did not provide details about the Amano-Araqchi talks but said the agency sees Monday’s encounter as an opportunity to explore “the way forward.”
