1 min read

IntSpaceStationNASA recently picked 770 proposals for space exploration hardware and applications from  9,147 participants in an April competition, GCN reported Wednesday.

NASA conducted the event across 48 countries for two days and developers built software, hardware, visualization, mobile applications and web tools, which the agency says will help further its existing programs, according to the report.

Teams used open data platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and NASA-built Django application in order to collaborate with each other, the report says.

Participants developed satellite models for NASA’s Mars exploration, data visualizations for national air traffic control, a weather app that leverages data from Mars and an underwater planetary rover, GCN reports.

A team of four members built an application that generated more than $15 million in return on investment for NASA, according to the publication.
