Peggy Sherry to Join IRS as Operations Support Deputy Commissioner

IRSbuildingPeggy Sherry, formerly chief financial officer at the Department of Homeland Security since April 2012, has been appointed deputy commissioner for operations support at the Internal Revenue Service.

She will officially start in her new position Nov. 4 and succeed Beth Tucker, who retired from the IRS at the end of last September, the tax agency said Wednesday.

Sherry will oversee functions that involve 11,500 employees such as the office of the chief financial officer, human capital office, information technology, privacy, protection of taxpayer information and agency-wide shared services.

Prior to becoming DHS CFO, she served as the department’s acting CFO and deputy CFO for four years.

Other previous roles include deputy CFO and financial reports supervisor for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and an assistant director post at the Government Accountability Office.
