HPLogo1-EbizHewlett-Packard Co. has been selected by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department to host the government’s health insurance marketplace website, The Wall Street Journal said Wednesday.

The department worked with contractors earlier this month in an effort to bolster the reliability of the site in advance of its goal to ensure the website works well for most users by Dec. 1, Spencer Ante and Christopher Weaver wrote.

The government plans to expand HealthCare.gov’s server capacity in order to handle nearly 50,000 users simultaneously.

HHS, the agency responsible for HealthCare.gov, has started work on migrating the website to a different data center, according to the article.

HP has also been tapped in September to provide “emergency” services in the event of system outages, WSJ reports.
