Reps. Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.) and Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.) of the House Armed Services Committee inspected a Huntington Ingalls Industries facility in Pascagoula, Miss. last week to tour a shipyard and learn about construction processes of military ships.

Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias said Thursday the lawmakers got tour of the USS John P. Murtha’s amphibious transport dock and other ship unit assembly shops.

“We spent time with the congressmen talking about our build processes and the progress we are making across the yard, particularly on the LPD program,” Cuccias said.

Palazzo said he and Byrne are looking to support increased funding for more LPD-class warships like the John P. Murtha through greater congressional support.

“I want to take every opportunity to educate my colleagues on the importance of the shipbuilding work we do right here in South Mississippi,” said Palazzo, who represents the state’s fourth district.
