Fang spoke with Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey as part of Fang’s five-day visit to discuss the said incidents as well as military-to-military cooperation between the U.S. and China, Chris Carroll reports.
Fang has said that the U.S. rebalance plan and increasing U.S. military activity in the Asia-Pacific region could have encouraged other countries to take advantage of China.
“We believe that the ones that are provoking those issues in the South China Sea [are] not China, but certain countries that are attempting to gain their own interests, because they believe that China is now developing its economy and the United States is adopting this Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy,” he said.
