Some lawmakers have called on the Government Accountability Office to review Healthcare.gov’s security features with the goal of ensuring identifiable information is not at risk of being hacked or stolen, FedScoop reported Tuesday.

Colby Hochmuth writes that Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, sent a letter of request to GAO last week.

The call for comprehensive testing followed months of testimonies on Capitol Hill to call for an impartial study of the site’s vulnerabilities, the report said.

Former acting White House budget director Jeffrey Zients led a group of technology leaders from government and business in fall 2013 to address the site’s technical issues.health infosec

Smith called Healthcare.gov a “goldmine” of personal data gleaned from several federal and state agencies and government contractors.

“As the primary, nonpartisan agency tasked with shedding light on government programs, GAO has a responsibility to conduct a full and thorough review of healthcare.gov,” Smith wrote.
