The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will undergo major reshuffling as the organization faces new health IT challenges without federal stimulus funds, Information Week reported Monday.

David Carr writes the leaner structure sees 10 offices led by directors in new or renamed roles that will report directly to Director Karen DeSalvo and Deputy National Coordinator Jacob Reider.

DeSalvo described the realignment, which “combines similar functions, elevates critical priority functions and (provides a) more accountable reporting structure,” as a strategy toward achieving the agency’s efficiency goals.

“The HITECH Act’s health IT infrastructure and program investments are ending and it is our responsibility to take this opportunity to reshape our agency to be as efficient and effective as possible, never losing sight of our primary accountability – the people of America,” DeSalvo wrote in a memo Friday obtained by Information Week.

“This realignment will support our focus on developing and implementing an interoperability roadmap, supporting care transformation, and establishing a framework to support appropriate use of health data,” she added.

The 10 offices and their leaders are:

  • Kelly Cronin, Office of Care Transformation
  • Joy Pritts, Office of the Chief Privacy Officer
  • Lisa Lewis, Office of the Chief Operating Officer
  • Doug Fridsma, Office of the Chief Scientist
  • Judy Murphy, Office of Clinical Quality and Safety
  • Seth Pazinski, Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Analysis
  • Jodi Daniel, Office of Policy
  • Kim Lynch, Office of Programs
  • Nora Super, Office of Public Affairs and Communications
  • Steve Posnack, Office of Standards and Technology
