Retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Robert Shea will join AFCEA International as president and CEO on Aug. 1 and succeed Kent Schneider, who led the organization for nearly seven years as its chief executive, AFCEA said Wednesday.

“When you look at the mission of AFCEA, how can you not be excited about working with an organization whose purpose is to promote international security with our allies and partners?” Shea said.

Shea previously served as an executive vice president at Smartronix.

“Kent is a patriot and a great leader. He has led the organization through some of the most difficult times in recent history,” said Linda Gooden, chair of AFCEA’s board of directors.

“He cares about the members, chapters and the AFCEA association. I am thoroughly convinced the association is better today because of Kent’s steadfast leadership.”

Shea’s military career includes service as Deputy Commander for U.S. Forces Japan; CIO of the USMC; Commanding Officer of 9th Comm. Battallion, Marine Expeditionary Force for operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
