cybersecurityThe Council of Governors, Defense Department and Department of Homeland Security have inked a joint cybersecurity action plan with the goal of helping to bolster the country’s cyber posture.

The State-Federal Unity of Effort on Cybersecurity plan was approved during the National Governors Association 2014 Summer Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, the National Governors Association said Tuesday.

“This joint action plan is yet another step toward protecting our citizens and economy against cyber attacks,” said Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, co-chair of the council.

The plan includes a framework for state and federal agencies to discuss methods for sharing information, coordinating operations and responding to incidents.

The National Guard will also work to support federal and state missions under the plan.
