Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) expects the Senate to confirm Robert McDonald to be the next secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Politico reported Wednesday.

Lauren French writes the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs voted 14-0 to approve McDonald’s nomination to the post.

Sanders told Politico that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) recently indicated the Senate’s decision on McDonald’s nomination could come as early as Thursday.

The Senate is scheduled to go on recess for five weeks beginning on Aug. 1, French reports.
