Navy Vice Adm. Philip Davidson, who has led several units in international posts, has been appointed commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
He has also been promoted to the rank of four-star admiral to serve in his new assignment, the Defense Department said Monday.
Davidson is currently commander of the Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO, Sixth Fleet and Task Force Six and is the Joint Force Maritime Component Commander Europe.
He also serves as deputy commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Naval Forces Africa.
