Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, has visited an Arlington, Virginia-based workshop and fabrication studio as part ofNational Manufacturing Day, DoD News reported Friday.

Cheryl Pellerin writes TechShop is a partnership between the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs that aims to further the development of technology and manufacturing.

Innovators have access to industrial tools, training and equipment to develop new systems under the TechShop program, according to the report.

Veterans also are eligible for a free one-year membership and training through TechShop’s partnership with the VA’s Center for Innovation and General Electric, Pellerin reports.

The TechShop facility provides laser cutters, plastics and electronics labs, a machine shop, a wood shop, a metal working shop, a textiles department, welding stations and a water jet cutter, the report says.

DoD News reports members work to design software with the facility’s Autodesk design suite and collaborate with other members.
