Sanjeev Bhagowalia has joined the Treasury Department as deputy assistant secretary and chief information officer, Pacific Business News reported Friday.
Duane Shimogawa writes the official comes into his new role after serving as Hawaii state CIO since July 2011 and later technology and cybersecurity advisor to Gov. Neil Abercrombie.
The governor credits Bhagowalia’s leadership for the various recognitions the state has received for its modernization initiatives.
“Over the past three years, Sonny has helped Hawaii leapfrog from the back of the pack in technology and cybersecurity to the front of the line and we are now one of best in the country,” Abercrombie was quoted as saying.
“We have the right plans and have completed many projects, thanks to his invaluable leadership.”
