Ashton Carter, Defense Department secretary nominee, has named three external advisers to help him through the confirmation process until the latter part of January, Government Executive reported Wednesday.

Gordon Lubold reports that Carter has tasked former Defense Business Board Chairman Michael Bayer to be his point man and work alongside Sally Donnelly and Dave Copp, who have previously advised other Defense Department officials.

The report said the Pentagon has already formed a team to help in the transition when current Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel leaves DoD, including Hagel’s Chief of Staff Rexon Ryu and Michael Lumpkin, an assistant secretary of defense.

Lubold writes that Carter, a former deputy defense secretary, may choose to work outside the Pentagon during the transition period.
