President Barack Obama plans to nominate Sally Yates, a federal prosecutor from Georgia, as deputy attorney general at the Justice Department, Reuters reported Monday.

Julia Edwards writes that Yates will serve as acting deputy attorney general beginning Jan. 10 while her nomination is under deliberation in the Senate.

The report said Yates has handled public corruption cases and is an ally of Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., who announced plans to leave his post earlier this year.

Edwards reports that Yates will succeed James Cole if confirmed to the Justice Department’s No. 2 position.
