Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), incoming oversight and government reform committee chairman, has announced the formation of new subcommittees and their selected chairpersons.

Chaffetz announced Dec. 17 the establishment of the government operations subcommittee that will focus on federal records, national archives, executive office of the president, the Postal Service, FOIA, commerce, treasury, education, labor and federal civil service, with Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) as chairman.

Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will lead the healthcare, benefits and administrative rules subcommittee, which will oversee  healthcare rules and regulations, social security and Medicare/Medicaid issues.

Will Hurd (R-Texas) will serve as chairman of the information technology subcommittee and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyoming) for the interior subcommittee with focus on the departments of Interior, Energy, Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Chaffetz also announced the creation of the national security and the transportation and public assets subcommittees with Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) and John Mica (R-Florida) as chairpersons, respectively.

Chaffetz said his committee made changes to subcommittee issue areas and titles in a move to help the subcommittee chairs and members address “the matters that come before the committee.”
