Energy DepartmentMichael Johnson, formerly assistant director for intelligence programs at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, has been selected as the Energy Department’s new chief information officer, Nextgov reported Wednesday.

Frank Konkel writes Johnson will succeed Don Adcock, the department’s interim CIO who took that role in September 2014 following Bob Brese’s departure from DOE.

Johnson served as the chief scientist within the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis before he joined OSTP, according to the report.

Johnson has been handling various national security issues across the intelligence, homeland security, cybersecurity and information sharing areas at OSTP, the report says.

He also served on the senior information sharing and safeguarding steering committee and the committee on national security systems, Nextgov reports.

Johnson previously served as a principal deputy to the intelligence community CIO and later as deputy associate director of National Intelligence for information sharing for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Konkel reports.

He previously served as senior adviser to DOE’s director of intelligence and the department’s CIO, according to the report.
