Lt. Gen. John Johnson: JIEDDO Reorganizes, Will Function as Combat Support Agency

1 min read

PentagonArmy Lt. Gen. John Johnson, director at the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, has said JIEDDO has been reorganized as a combat support agency under the supervision of the defense undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, DoD News reported Monday.

Terri Moon Cronk writes Johnson said the realignment is intended to provide JIEDDO access to military technologies and increase support for deployed U.S. troops.

“We provide counter-IED capabilities that allow service members to adapt and be that No. 1 weapon on the battlefield,” Johnson told DoD News.

He noted that JIEDDO provided analytics, training and equipment to help U.S. soldiers manage homemade bomb threats during their combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Johnson also believes the organization’s approach can be applied to anti-IED missions in other parts of the world, according to the report.

“We can apply the analysis to new training techniques, new tactics, equipment, and significantly enhance how our ground forces do business,” he added to DoD News.
