DARPA Seeking Nontraditional Contractors to Help Build Robotic Systems

1 min read

Army-RoboticsThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has started a program that aims to expedite the process of developing robotic systems for the U.S. military.

DARPA said Monday it wants to collaborate with nontraditional developers under the Robotics Fast Track initiative and expects to spend about $150,000 on each project that could deliver a prototype within six to 12 months.

“We’re eager to pioneer this new approach, which could lead to rapid, marked improvements in national security as a whole,” said Mark Micire, a DARPA program manager.

The agency has tapped an Open Source Robotics Foundation and BIT Systems alliance to help innovators participate in the RFT program.

DARPA is interested in examining technologies for robotic sensing, perception, communication and planning functions and that could support military and non-military national security operations.
