House Bills Push for Supercomputer R&D, Tech Transfer Initiatives

research and development RDThe House has unanimously approved two bills that would establish federal programs to build exascale computers and facilitate transfer of technologies from laboratory to market.

“Massive gains in computing power are necessary to meet our national security, scientific and health care needs,” Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Ill.), sponsor of the bills, said May 19.

The American Super Computing Leadership Act calls for research into supercomputing technologies, while the Department of Energy Laboratory Modernization and Technology Transfer Act seeks to promote methods to simplify government innovation transfer.
