The government is planning to provide specialized training to agency contracting officers in an effort to create a digital-savvy team that will work on technology acquisition programs, Nextgov reported Friday.

Jack Moore writes that Anne Rung, administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, said the effort is modeled after the U.S. Digital Service but will target current personnel.

“What we’d like to move to through this new team is thinking about more succinct statement of objectives, thinking about having industry submit short concept papers and really trying to approach these acquisitions in a more modular manner,” Rung told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee at a recent hearing.

The report said the training program will be based on the chosen proposal from an ongoing prize competition that OFPP launched last month with USDS and the Office of Management and Budget.

Rung noted that the future digital procurement corps will follow an agile approach to scale up its work at agencies, Moore reports.
