Acting CMS Head Andy Slavitt Nominated for Full-Time Post

Andy Slavitt, principal deputy administrator of the Department of Health and Human Services‘ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has received the White House nomination for the CMS leadership role.

Slavitt has led CMS in an acting capacity since March 2015, the White House said Thursday.

Before joining CMS, Slavitt held healthcare leadership roles in the private sector, including his work at UnitedHealth Group as group executive vice president of the Optum subsidiary and CEO of the consumer solutions group.

He was also CEO of Inginex (now Optum Insight), CEO of HealthAllies, chief operations officer of Paula Financial and an associate at McKinsey & Company.
