The White House has nominated Lt. Gen. Robert Neller, commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, as the next commandant of the Marines and successor to Gen. Joseph Dunford, Marine Corps Times reported Wednesday.

Hope Hodge Seck and Aaron Mehta write that Neller would become the 37th Marine Corps commandant if his nomination is approved, as Dunford is the nominee for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Neller is in charge of deployment planning and execution, the Marine bases in the East Coast, as well as the Marine Corps Forces Europe.

He assumed his current post in July 2014.
