The Senate has confirmed White House nominee LaVerne Council as the new chief information officer and assistant secretary for information and technology at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal Times reported Thursday.

Aaron Boyd writes that the confirmation puts Council in charge of the department’s $4 billion information technology portfolio beginning Monday after a three-year vacancy in the CIO role.

Acting VA CIO Stephen Warren will continue his duties as principal deputy assistant secretary for IT, the report said.

Council will start her new role one month after Shulkin’s confirmation as health undersecretary at the VA, more than three months after the White House submitted their names for nomination.
