workforceThe General Services Administration‘s 18F organization is continuing its work to build a “culture of excellence” at government agencies as part of the GovConnect initiative in collaboration with the Office of Personnel Management.

Brad Nunnally and Sarah Allen of 18F wrote Tuesday that the initiative seeks to establish approaches that will help develop a federal workforce that can work together on cross-agency programs.

Nunnally and Allen said that 18F utilizes a human-centered design approach to determine potential challenges and solutions in the effort.

“Our current government model was designed for a different kind of work and predates current technology and management practices,” they wrote.

“GovConnect is an agile workforce initiative… to encourage agencies to think differently about work, one that develops and connects the federal workforce, encourages innovation and helps develop critical skills and build professional networks across the government to where and when they’re needed.”

The GovConnect team will also seek to extend its dialogue with pilot agencies, mentors, nonprofit organizations and the private sector to move forward to the next phases of the initiative, Nunnally and Allen said.
