Alan Estevez – principal undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics — has highlighted the Defense Department and U.S. Transportation Commandâs focus on force readiness and modernization amid tight budgets, DoD News reported Wednesday.
Estevez told the National Defense Transportation Associationâs fall meeting in Maryland that DoD and Transcomâs initiative to bolster force structure and preparedness is based on the defense budget foundation, Amaani Lyle reports.
âWeâre building off a â16 budget that doesnât exist⦠and whatever we get in the â16 budget is probably going to be lower than that $538 billion,â Esteves told the event.
He said the defense funds could go below sequestration levels in the event of a yearlong stopgap resolution, according to the report.
Estevez also hailed Transcomâs efforts to deploy forces as it continues to focus on acquisitions, innovation and cyber despite uncertainties in the fiscal year 2017-2021 budget plans, DoD News reports.
