IG Finds 19 Hacks on Interior Dept Networks

CyberCrimeKeyboardThe Interior Department’s inspector general has revealed that Chinese hackers and hackers with network address in Europe have breached the department’s networks 19 times within the last three years, Nextgov reported Tuesday.

Aliya Sternstein and Jack Moore write the hackers copied data from the department’s systems according to the IG’s report.

Deputy Inspector General Mary Kendall disclosed the findings to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell in a memo dated Nov. 9, Nextgov reports.

The report says hackers have stolen sensitive information and disrupted bureau operations through vulnerabilities in publicly accessible systems, Sternstein reports.
