OPM Issues Guidance for Agencies to Determine Top 5 Cyber Talent Gaps

cybersecurityThe Office of Personnel Management has issued a guidance document on how government agencies can assess and identify their top five gaps in cybersecurity talent.

The guidance was released in support of the Cybersecurity Strategy and Implementation Plan the Office of Management and Budget issued on Oct. 30, OPM said Nov. 23.

CISP seeks to facilitate agencies’ participation in OMB’s Special Cyber Workforce Project, which aims to help agency officials identify and address retention challenges and gaps in cyber talent.

According to the guidance, agency chief information officers will work with chief human capital officers to determine the supply and demand within their cyber workforce.

Agency CIOs should report their top five talent gaps through the use of cyber codes for specialty areas such as cyber threat analysis, network services and systems development.

Agencies have until Dec. 17 to upload narrative-based supplemental data and their completed resource charts containing the identified talent gaps on OMB’s MAX website.
