Cisco’s Kapil Bakshi: Govt CIOs’ 2016 Resolutions Should Include Tech Areas for Digital Transformation

1 min read

computer-technologyKapil Bakshi, a systems engineer at Cisco, wrote in a guest piece published Wednesday on Nextgov that federal CIOs should focus efforts on technology areas that work to support government digitization and CIO empowerment.

“[Government] CIOs need to think strategically about the mission and role of the IT department to fully enable the digital transformation of their agency,” he said.

According to Bakshi, four areas that should be part of CIOs’ resolutions for 2016 include hybrid cloud, analytics, advanced threat detection and fast IT.

He noted that hybrid cloud works to support both the flexibility and security needs of agencies, while the analysis of big data and data from the Internet of Things generates insights that help move agency missions forward.

The use of advanced tools to monitor and protect computer networks and a “fast IT” architecture to make IT operations more agile should also be key focus areas in 2016, Bakshi added.
