According to a FederalNewsRadio interview, Kevin Kampschrorer, GSAâs Acting Director of the Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings, said, âThere are different takes on what might be done in the building. We will take it from a pretty poor performer to something that is a showcase.â For example, the building will have solar power installed on the rooftop. Additionally, they are going to use a system that automatically turns off the air conditioning unit when you open up a window.
GSA was given $5.5 billion from the Recovery Act in order to refurbish several federal buildings. Aside from these projects, beginning on January 1st this year, any new lease that is more than 10,000 sq. ft. will be required to meet certain energy efficient guidelines.
