Finding someone to head the review of the Comcast/NBC Universal merger has been a priority for FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski. Yesterday, he announced the appointment of John Flynn as senior counsel to the chairman for transactions for the FCC.
Flynn is currently executive vice president, general counsel andcorporate secretary of ICO Global Communications. He will be working under the inter-bureau steering committee that was established by Genachowski to lead the team that is reviewing the merger.
Genachowski is confident in Flynn’s abilities and said, “The FCC staff has been working hard to analyze all issues presented by the proposed merger, and John’s legal expertise and broad experience will help to ensure that the Commission’s review is thorough, fair, and efficient.”
Flynn previously served as vice president and deputy general counsel of Commerce One, Inc., general counsel and vice president of rStar Broadband Networks, Inc. He has also worked in private practice with WilmerHale and Munger, Tolles & Olson. Flynn holds his law degree from Georgetown University.
“I am delighted that John has joined our team to help drive the agency’s review of this major proposed transaction,” Genachowski said.
