NSA Launches High-Tech Recruiting Tools

The National Security Agency is launching a full-court press to recruit new hires for its cybersecurity initiatives.

The high-tech outreach efforts to the digital generation represent one of the largest hiring efforts in recent years, the agency said.

NSA is leveraging the power and ubiquity of smartphones to engage possible new recruits, offering an iTunes application, Career Links, which delivers real-time updates about employment opportunities and agency news.

NSA is also allowing smartphone users to “tag”  print-based brochures, which launches videos on the user’s smartphone.

“This fiscal year for us is going to be a tremendous hiring year,” said Kathy Hutson, associate director for human resources. “We are looking for people in the science, technology, engineering and math skill fields.”

She said using unconventional marketing tools makes sense for NSA to pique the interest of the tech-savvy generation.

“Our need for these skills is enormous; therefore, we need to be using cool high-tech tools,” she said.
