When Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt announced the government’s new plan for large-scale identity management — a secure “identity ecosystem†— for online transactions, they promised the private sector would have a role to play.
And, with the recent appointment of Jeremy Grant, who has experience in both the federal and private sectors, to head the project, the architects of the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace are making good on their pledge.
The National Institutes of Standards and Technology announced earlier this week that Grant, who most recently served as chief development officer for ASI Government, would head the NSTIC’s National Program office.
Before his most recent position, he spent three years working as a cybersecurity market analyst for Washington Research Group. Before that, he led the security and identity management practice at MAXIMUS.
Grant’s new position brings his identity management experiences full circle. He got his professional start as a Senate legislative aide, where he drafted the legislation that laid the foundation for the use of smart cards in the Defense Department and throughout the federal government.
He also previously served as co-chair of the identity management committee at TechAmerica.
