The Department of Homeland Security has put out the word: It’s looking for private-sector executives to fill two key positions, including a cybersecurity post, for an exchange program that links DHS with industry experts.
“We’re looking to our nation’s top executives to partner with us as we strive to solve problems, improve processes, and fully realize our mission,†reads a DHS blog post about the Loaned Executive exchange program and the two job openings: a senior cybersecurity adviser and a senior adviser for strategy development.
In the cyber position, a private-sector executive will help evaluate the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center’s Capabilities and clarify DHS’ cyber strategies.
The development position will allow an executive to advise DHS on its strategic position and examine “the long-term impact of evolving threats, challenges and trends,†according to the DHS blog.
Both positions last for six months with the option of an additional six-month extension. While they work for DHS, executives will continue to earn their salary and benefits from their private-sector employer.

DHS is not the only department to work on job exchanges between the federal government and the private sector. The Defense Department recently took public comments on a job exchange pilot program, allowing its high-level IT employees to to work at a private company for up to two years while still retaining federal employee status.
