President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama became the first president to hold a Twitter townhall meeting. The townhall, #WHTweetup@Townhall, took place yesterday at the White House East Room and featured 140 guests and 30 Tweetup participants from all around the country who follow @whitehouse on Twitter.

To help the president sift through the questions during the hour-long event were journalists and bloggers from publications such as The Economist, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and The Times-Picayune. Obama took questions from many Twitter users, including Speaker of the House John Bohner and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof.

During the townhall, Obama talked about what his administration has done wrong during the recession and proposed some initiatives to help veterans in the job market, handle illegal immigration issues and curb military spending.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey moderated the event.
